    • Famous Mathematician, primarily for developing a mechanical device for
      changing linear motion into circular motion, now known as the "Lipkin
      Parallelogram." He remained poor all his life, in part because of the
      fact that he was Jewish in the academic world. He lived for a time in
      Petersburgh before returning to Koenigsberg. He received his Ph.D. from
      the University of Jena in 1870 and died five years later at the age of
      30.
